Heroes 2x05 'Fight or Flight'
In which I rank the storylines so far by how much I am enjoying them.
The top three storylines:
1. Nathan and Matt. Oh, Nathan. Team you up with anyone and you make them cooler. These two get first place because they are doing something important and purposeful - investigating the mystery of who is killing off the older generation.
2. Monica and Micah. They are both made of awesome, and together that awesomeness is multiplied. I love that Micah is savvy enough to work out what is going on with Monica, and caring enough to reach out and help her.
3. Sylar, Maya and Alejandro. Because this is going to be one car trip to remember.
The bottom three storylines:
3. Peter. His personality and purpose have been sucked away, and he's not interacting with anyone interesting.
2. Hiro. He's stuck in the past, and he's willing to mess up history for someone who's not very interesting.
1. Claire. She's making some dumb choices, and she's hanging out with someone I want to punch every time I see him on screen. Actually, make that every time I even think about him.
Everyone else sort of falls somewhere in between. I'm not hugely invested in Mr Bennet's plan to bring down the Company, and the less said about Mohinder's terrible idea to bring them Molly the better. (Yeah, just *give* them the Walker Tracking System, why don't you...)
Question: Why are my three favourite characters from last season in the bottom three storylines? Did they use up their quota of good writers last season or something? Did they get replaced by zombies?
Lastly, shallowness:
* It pleases me immensely that Peter's belongings contained *that* photo. But he hardly gave it a second glance. Aww.
* Nathan's nightmare was a stunning setpiece, like the ones that made Season One great. Wrestling with his other self! On a ruined rooftop! While New York burns in the background! (And that momentary look of joy when he thought he had found Peter. Oh, Nathan...)
* And now we know who would win in a fight between Nathan and Matt.
