What I've been watching the past year.
My top recommendations
Lost (Season 5)
Ever since the creators fixed an end point for this series, it has just gotten better and better. The characters, the drama, the science fiction - everything is coming together and it is *magnificent*.
Arrested Development (Season 3)
There are some shows that are pure delight to watch. This is one of them. It's a crime that it only lasted three seasons.
Jonathan Creek (Season 1)
This show reminds me of how much I love murder mystery puzzles, although some solutions verge on the preposterous. Also, Jonathan and Maddie are awesome together.
My other favourite shows
Carnivale (Season 2)
Secrets are uncovered, characters come into their own, and cliffhangers are revealed. But sadly, we don't get to find how it should have ended, because the series was cancelled.
Lost in Austen (complete)
Reasonably entertaining, although this Darcy quite irritated me, and I was reminded that, although Pride and Prejudice is a fantasy for some people, someone like me would be less than a nobody there.
30 Rock (Season 2)
Jack Donaghy is still my favourite character on this show.
Joan of Arcadia (Season 2)
A longtime favourite. Still not sure about the direction it takes towards the end though.
Wonderfalls (complete)
Jaye is great as the slacker summoned to duty, but it is her family that steals the show. Also, I love shows about supernatural serendipity. It should have had more than one season.
Merlin (Season 1)
One of those shows where I'm watching it for the fandom, and in the hope that it may get better.
Train Man (complete)
I don't know if I can get used to a one hour show, as opposed to forty minute shows. The pacing feels a bit padded at times, leading to some frustration. But there were still moments that made me tear up.
Doctor Who (specials)
Some episodes were better than others, but the finale was a great farewell for the Tenth Doctor, and all the cast and crew who had brought this show back to life.
My biggest disappointments
Dollhouse (Season 1)
This was the show where we all thought, this sounds like a really dodgy premise, except that maybe Joss can pull it off. Turns out, he couldn't.
Chuck (Seasons 1 & 2)
I loved Season 1, but Season 2 kept retreading the same ground, as well as giving emphasis to tropes I'm not that keen on. A show must evolve or die.
