It's been a long time coming, but I finally got to see it. The story is complete.

* I really liked it. It was light years ahead of Part 1 in terms of pacing, drama, and action. I loved how well the movie handled exposition and how much subtlety was in the dialogue. Lots of understatement, which made it stronger.

* I was impressed with Griphook in the Shell Cottage scene, but I didn't realise until the credits that he was Warwick Davis, aka Willow the Sorcerer from my childhood! It's cool that he's still doing stuff.

* Minerva McGonagall is awesome.

* When I was watching the protection spell englobe the school, all I could think was, I am so glad these books were written in an era when the technology can do them justice on screen. When what you imagine can be realised. We take it for granted, but it's still wondrous. And it's so fitting that the last battle is at Hogwarts. It's the heart of the realm. (I loved the "IT ALL ENDS HERE" poster with Hogwarts on fire. You knew things were about to get real.)

* My one big gripe: Neville's Big Damn Hero moment got messed up. It is maybe my favourite moment in that final book. So it was cool when he stepped forward to defy Voldemort and drew out the sword of Gryffindor, but then Harry woke up, and I spent the next ten minutes watching him and Voldemort chase each other around the school, wondering when Neville was going to chop the snake's head off. Slightly anticlimactic.

* Yay that Molly Weasley got her "Not my daughter, you bitch!" moment.

* I don't remember Neville and Luna getting together in the books, only in fic. Or am I losing my memory? They are sweet together anyway.

* I'm surprised that they went so graphic with the flayed remnant of Voldemort's soul. I'd kind of wondered if they'd pull it back, but no, I guess that's why this movie is rated M.

* The epilogue was actually okay, cutting out most of the twee stuff and focusing on Harry and his youngest son. And the story continues for the new generation, but here is where we fade out and leave them.

It's really rather strange not to have any more Harry Potter movies to look forward to.
