There's something about acts of inspired madness that seize the human imagination. Why people decide to climb mountains or build sandcastles or unicycle around the coast of Australia.

November is National Novel Writing Month, when thousands of people from all over the world try to accomplish something both extraordinary and insane - writing a 50,000 word novel in 30 days.

Last year, I was one of the people who signed up for this challenge. I wasn't one of the people who finished - I made it halfway there - but it was still a remarkable experience. It was fun, it was frustrating, and it was unforgettable.

This year, I signed up as soon as registrations opened. As November draws closer, as people start posting in the forums about their ideas and strategies and plans, I can feel the buzz of excitement spreading.

And I mean to finish this time, come hell or high water. I'll be putting updates on my progress - or lack of it - in this LiveJournal, to give me additional motivation to keep up the pace.

I know of a few others on my friends list, like [livejournal.com profile] thawrecka and [livejournal.com profile] girliejones, who are taking part this year. Anyone else up for it?

My best wishes to you too.
Hey, why don't you go for the Bulwer-Lytton fiction award at the same time? Two awards in one fell swoop!

Heh, the infamous Bulwer-Lytton award. I don't know if I have it in me to come up with anything twisted enough... we'll see.
