There are a lot of things I could say about Dexter Down Under, a graphic novel in which Dexter visits Australia to help the local police catch a serial killer. I have mixed feelings about the Dexter series these days, but I had to check it out.

It was worth it just for the entertainment value of the geography fail. Because the serial killer is targeting Chinese refugees, who are arriving by boat...

In Canberra.

I am, like, 90% sure that Canberra is landlocked. At the very least, it's an inland city hundreds of kilometres away from the bit of Australia closest to Asia. There is no logical reason why refugee boats would land there!

Dexter also drives from Canberra to the Great Ocean Road and back before dinnertime. It made me wonder if he was also going to drive to Uluru while he was at it.

(He does end up visiting Uluru, the location of a sheep station described as "far outback, out near Ayers Rock". Though it isn't revealed if he drove or flew.)

I was surprised to see a shark in Lake Burley Griffin.

Also, white nationalists hating Asian immigrants seems very 1990s.

Bonus! Lines characters actually say:

"Awright, Shawna. I'll give 'er a go."
"Of course it's bloody legal! We're the bloody police!"
"Bloody hell. Hate hiding from this drongo."
"Crikey, it's hot. Dexter, mate..."
