The year that was

The year that started and ended with a wedding.
The year friends went away overseas and friends returned from overseas.
The year I rediscovered fandom with a passion.
The year I started studying Japanese again.
The year I came back to FFXI and the year I said goodbye to FFXI.
The year I roamed around Japan for three glorious weeks.
The year I read about five million words.
The year I was proud of the voters of Australia again.
In many ways, this year has felt like a This Is Your Life episode, with its constant callbacks to things out of the past. And some are things to welcome back, and some are things to lay to rest. It's all a work in progress, really, and all I can hope for is that each new year I can make fewer mistakes and better choices. But that's the lovely thing about fresh beginnings. The sense of hope. The promise of an as yet unwritten future.
