Showdown on ice
Jan. 25th, 2016 11:39 pmSo the season is drawing to a close for the Australian Women's Ice Hockey League. This weekend had the last home games for the Sydney Sirens, against last year's champions, Melbourne Ice.
Saturday's game started well, on even terms. But once the Sirens pulled ahead, they left the Ice far behind. The game ended 7-1. I felt rather sorry for the goalie.
Sunday's game, on the other hand, was in deadly earnest. Both teams had something to prove. And if the Sirens won, they would move to the top of the rankings.
It was a great game, tense and exciting. At the start of the third period, the Sirens were ahead 5-4. It went to 5-5, then 5-6, then 6-6, and then finally, the Ice pulled ahead at 6-7. So close.
The finals will be in Melbourne in February. I wish I could be there, but hopefully I can catch the livestream.
