Yuletide anniversary
Oct. 2nd, 2016 12:05 pmThis year will be my tenth Yuletide. I can't remember exactly how I heard about it. I think it was my first time doing a fic exchange, though I'd participated in fic challenges before. It seemed like an exciting idea - write a story and get a story! A chance for something in your rare fandom! It's only 1000 words!
That first year, I wrote a Vision of Escaflowne story - and I received not one but three stories, for Alliance-Union, Chronicles of Amber, and Dungeons and Dragons. Things were off to a very promising start! Over the years, I've been lucky enough to receive some amazing gifts, write some satisfying stories, and squee with other enthusiastic people about our shared rare fandoms.
If I were trying Yuletide for the first time today, I might well be intimidated by the huge production it has become, with all its arcane traditions: letters, treats, swaps, challenges, hippos, anonmemes, and so many spreadsheets. But at its heart, it's still a simple idea. Write a story. Get a story. Your rare fandom. 1000 words.
