Well. That sure was a year.

My fandom year

Fanfic: Most of the fic I wrote this year was for fandom exchanges. I took part in Chocolate Box, Hurt/Comfort, Just Married, Rule 63, Trick or Treat, and Yuletide. I also wrote a fill for Ladies Bingo and a treat for Id Pro Quo.

I wrote 9 stories this year:

1 - The Goblin Emperor - (Passionate Dance) (Chocolate Box)
1 - Chronicles of Amber - (Amberite Princesses Road Trip) (Ladies Bingo)
1 - Books of the Raksura - (The Second Consort) (Id Pro Quo)
1 - Kit Fielding - (Tripod) (Hurt/Comfort)
1 - Thor - (Flying Into Your Arms) (Just Married)
1 - Fairytales - (Stronger Than Curses) (Rule 63)
1 - The Lord of the Rings - (The River Remembers the Sea) (Trick or Treat)
1 - The Mandalorian - (Five Times Din Djarin Took The Jetpack) (the only one not an exchange fic)
1 - Yuletide fandom (to be revealed)

Fandoms: My fave new canons of the year: Fall of Ile-Rien and The Mandalorian.

Platforms: I continued posting to Dreamwidth, but had issues crossposting to LiveJournal. I reblogged a few things on Tumblr. I occasionally hopped onto Discord.

2020 in review

1. What did you do in 2020 that you'd never done before?

Worked from home. Wore a mask. Spent two months without leaving my own suburb. Spent six months without going into the city. Went to a virtual convention.

2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

Always a work in progress.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

Yes.

4. Did anyone close to you die?

No.

5. What countries did you visit?

None.

6. What would you like to have in 2021 that you lacked in 2020?

Get togethers with big groups of friends and family.

7. What date from 2020 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

That day back in March, which was the last day I was in the office, and the last day of normality for a long time.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Making it through the year.

9. What was your biggest failure?

I think we all get a pass this year.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

Thankfully, no.

11. What was the best thing you bought?

My NBN connection. Finally, I can do video calls, stream movies and music, and download as many podcasts as I want, without worrying about bandwidth or quota.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?

All the doctors, nurses, and scientists.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?

Various people who disbelieve science.

14. Where did most of your money go?

The mortgage.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

Getting to see family and friends again. Getting to eat at a restaurant again. Getting to visit a library again.

16. What song will always remind you of 2020?

Still trying to think of one that isn't morbidly apocalyptic.

17. What do you wish you'd done more of?

Considering how much time I spent at home, I somehow ended up doing even less housework than usual. But I can't bring myself to actually regret it.

18. What do you wish you'd done less of?

Procrastinating on the internet.

19. How will you be spending Christmas?

With family.

20. What was your favorite TV program?

The Mandalorian, hands down.

21. What was the best book you read?

I fell in love with the Fall of Ile-Rien trilogy by Martha Wells. I also loved Island of Ghosts and Dark North by Gillian Bradshaw, The Chronicles of Morgaine by CJ Cherryh, Network Effect and City of Bones by Martha Wells, and the Penric and Desdemona series by Lois McMaster Bujold.

Ludwig Göransson and his incredible soundtrack for The Mandalorian.

Staying in touch with people through everything this year.

Knives Out was brilliant and delightful.

25. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

Cake with family. Older but wiser.

26. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

I can't even with might-have-beens. Not this time.

27. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2020?

Mostly tracky daks. (Swapping out a nice top if I had a video call.)

28. What kept you sane?

As always, friends and family.

29. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

Pedro Pascal and his beautiful face.

30. What political issue stirred you the most?

Climate change. (And why is this a political issue anyway?)

31. Who did you miss?

Absent friends.

32. Who was the best new person you met?

There wasn't much meeting of new persons in person this year. But I did get to meet new fandom friends through friending memes and fic exchanges.

33. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2020:

Always keep your toilet paper stocked up.

34. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:

Sure as every year has to come to an end
I'd go spinning around the sun with you again
And again and again and again

Happy New Year! Stay safe and well, wherever you are. Here's wishing for a better 2021.
