Notes on Murderbot and Birthdays (The Murderbot Diaries)

The Murderbot Diaries is how I discovered Martha Wells, whose entire back catalogue I subsequently devoured, and it's still one of my top faves. (The others are Books of the Raksura and Fall of Ile-Rien.)

My recipient had fun prompts about Murderbot learning how to be a person who lives in a society, and Amena taking Murderbot to the Preservation version of prom/school play/ice skating/any other slightly mundane activity.

I love Murderbot being awkward about emotions and trying to deal with humans. Grappling with the concept of birthdays seemed like a way into these things, especially how they are depicted in media versus real life.

I only recently learned that penguin ice skating aids are a thing. (I don't remember them from when I was young!) Though apparently the penguins are designed for kids, and the polar bears are more suited for adults.

Notes on Commitment (Seafort Saga)

It's probably not a surprise by now, but when I saw this fandom requested I knew I had to treat it. My recipient had many inspiring prompts as always, including Tolliver going with Nick into exile, leading to Nick realising that Tolliver is the love of his life. Whatever the cost, he's never going to desert him. <3

Also, I'm a huge sucker for tropey fic, so if there's a prompt for "oh no there's only one bed", I am totally there.

Every time I write for this fandom, I end up rereading big chunks of the books, and they still bring me a lot of happiness. (If that's the right word considering all the angst and trauma that Nick Seafort goes through.)
