Life after NaNo

It feels more than a little weird, after these weeks of constant pressure, to wake up and not have a word count hanging over you. It's been my primary focus for an entire month, and I feel a little unbalanced now that it's gone. I do want to get back into my other projects, which have been sorely neglected. For one thing, I'd like to finish the next part of Ties of Blood before the end of the year.
So, why am I still up at this hour, now that NaNo is over? Heh heh. We'll get to that.
Thursday
Went to see Guards! Guards! with my sister at the Fig Tree Theatre. It was a very enjoyable experience. The adaptation was very well done (they kept most of my favourite scenes, including Vetinari's speech at the end about people and evil), the actors did a great job in their roles (I particularly liked Vimes), and all the other aspects of production, like costuming and set design, were excellent. The only thing I had complaints about was the portrayal of Lady Sybil Ramkin. Not the fact that she was played by a large guy in a wig and dress - I think that was a stroke of genius - but that they had her coming onto Vimes so heavily, instead of giving her the dignity and pathos she's supposed to have. But that was just a minor irritant in an overall enjoyable night, and I'd definitely go to any other Discworld plays there are in the future.

hopexd's graduation. Sydney Uni's Great Hall is much cooler than UNSW's Clancy Auditorium. I mean, doesn't the Great Hall sound like something out of Hogwart's? And it looks like something out of Oxford or Cambridge, all built of sandstone with stained glass windows and everything.
sentxd was amused by the fact that the guest speaker was from Alberta, while I had to comment about PhD hats. (You know you play too much RO when...) Anyway, congratulations, Hope, on reaching masterhood! You outrank us all now. :)
Saturday
Went to the first Hayase creative social session, at the Mars Hill Cafe in Parramatta - which happens to be one of the coolest places to hang out for an afternoon. Relaxing atmosphere, nifty drinks, and a fun group of people to chat with. I'm not an artist, unlike most of the people who turned up, but I figured I could get some work done on NaNo. And despite all the socialising, I did. Had to leave before dinner to go home and type my stuff up, but it was a good day. Thanks to
pirochan for organising it!
Sunday
evilhayama's birthday party, where we all learned to make okonomiyaki. It was pretty cool. (Mmm, now I feel hungry...) Spent a while sitting in front of a recording mic trying to fake that I can do Maaya Sakamoto. No practice, and lousy vocal range. (My excuse: I was volunteered.) I'm glad my real name's not going anywhere near the thing. Unfortunately I had to leave the party early, due to NaNo. (I'd been intending to finish it the night before so it would be out of the way, but I fell asleep at about three.) Got it done half an hour before deadline, then logged on to RO for the wedding. Punchin Judy performed the ceremony, and pretty much everyone attended - including Lemir, who *did* dead branch everyone outside the church. Somehow, Ash survived, although Lumi died at least once. (Is it time to Kill Lemir?)
Monday
The first day after NaNo. Treated myself to some Witchblade - oh man, this show still rocks and creeps me out and makes me laugh and has me saying "What *was* that? What the *hell* was that?" at the screen. Also, dropped off the computer at the shop to get the long awaited upgrade.
Tuesday
And today, we picked up the shiny new upgraded computer! Yes, I am typing this using a Pentium 4 CPU at 3GHz with 512 MB of RAM, after way too long on a Celeron 300. Sweeeet. And we have sound back! I'm looking forward to seeing how RO runs now...
Anyway, that's why I'm up so late - trying out the new system, and catching up on two days' worth of email and LJ entries. Ah, I've probably been on for long enough. Laters.
