Summary: It was awesome.

MASSIVE SPOILERS AHEAD.

* First up, the episode before this = best recap episode ever.

* I love that they all had their parts to play: Aang against Ozai; Sokka, Toph and Suki against the invasion fleet; the old masters of the White Lotus taking back Ba Sing Se; and Katara and Zuko against Azula.

* Zuko reuniting with Iroh = best scene ever. I almost cried too.

* One of the great things about watching a show aimed at kids is that you can be pretty confident that they won't kill off characters to traumatise you. If this was, say, Lost, I would bet that anyone who fell off the airship would not be coming back.

* Zuko vs Azula = made of awesome. He has turned into one hell of a bender. But all his bending skills were less awesome than the defenceless leap he made into the lightning. Oh, Zuko.

* I love that it is Katara who ends up defeating Azula. I know it's all about Aang, but in a way, I still think of Katara as the main character, or at least the viewpoint character. So it's fitting that she takes on a key role in the final battle.

* I love that they made a huge issue of whether Aang should kill the Firelord, like all the other moral dilemmas the show keeps raising.

* I love that Iroh gets his tea shop after all.

Sister: "I don't know about Katara and Aang ending up together..."
Me: "Because he's so young? Because he's the Avatar? Because he's a monk?"
Sister: "I didn't even think of the monk thing!"

Anyway, she felt that the relationship was a one-sided crush on Aang's part, and that Katara seemed to have more chemistry with Zuko. I had to agree.

Me: "But even so, I can buy Katara and Aang, because they've been setting it up from the start."
Sister: "Yeah, I know. But after the kiss, when she says, 'I'm confused,' I think I needed a scene where she realises she loves him back. Some moment they have together."
Me: "Instead, you get Zuko throwing himself in front of lightning to save Katara. And her healing him after."
Sister: "... Yeah."

I can't believe it's over. I feel lucky that I was able to watch it over months instead of years, which I guess is sort of in real time compared to the show. But so much happened in those 61 episodes, it feels like it should have spanned a longer period. I would loved to have seen the characters grow older and grow up, like in Hikaru no Go. But I'm grateful that a show like this exists.

Also, now I want this:

I'm rewatching the series atm, so am getting a kick out of this.

Also, pretend the live-action doesn't exist and don't watch it. Whitewashing of the cast aside, teh reviews coming out of the states are scathing in the whole, "4% on Rotten Tomatoes ranking lower than Twilight and the second Transformers movie" scathing.

I can easily imagine rewatching it. How is it the second time around?

The live action is seriously that bad? I was divided in my mind about it, because while I thought it was unfaithful, I expected it at least to be good. How can you get Avatar wrong? O_o

Apparently, very, very, very wrong.

...

Wow.

Maybe after this they really will stop giving M Night Shyamalan movies to direct.
