I was out all day yesterday after voting, and by the time I got home I didn't feel up to checking online who had won, in case it gave me bad dreams. By the time morning rolled around, I was finally braced for the news, except there wasn't any yet.

What a mess.

In these last three years, for a brief time, there was a government I could believe in and an opposition I could respect.

Now the choice is between disappointing and disastrous. I don't know which I'll wake up to tomorrow.

Over the last week I've gone from horrified to pretty apathetic. The negotiations with the Independents could at least raise interesting issues, whether or not a government works out. I suppose I'm marginally relieved that at least Abbott didn't outright win, because even if he gets the government and proceeds to be smug, I didn't have to put up with all that smugness immediately post-election? I don't know.

Anyway, Worldcon! When are you arriving? Where are you staying? I'll be there from early (gah) Wednesday morning, and staying at Urban Central, about a block south from the convention centre.

Yeah, I'm not as up in arms anymore as I was those first few days, although I'm still very much "anyone but Abbott please", and it's pretty tragic that Labor can have squandered such a huge margin of goodwill. But now it's almost fascinating to see how long they can drag this out for. Who is running the country?! No one knows, but we are just getting on with our lives...
