Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney 3: Trials and Tribulations

Everyone kept telling me how fantastic Phoenix Wright 3 was, how it tied all the storylines together, how it brought the series to a satisfying conclusion.

And they were right.

I love it when the threads of past and present meet. I love it when the actions of the old generation have consequences that reverberate onto the new generation. The interconnectedness of the storylines from all the games reminds me a bit of Lost. Not on the same scale as six seasons, but three games is still a fair amount of canon to weave together.


Things that were awesome:

* Phoenix as the naive young college student, believing in people with all his heart. And Mia fighting to prove his innocence.

* Mia in her first case, against Edgeworth. And its heartbreaking consequences.

* Phoenix running across the burning bridge to save Maya. A Big Damn Hero moment.

* Edgeworth taking over as defence attorney! Especially his hilarious internal commentary.

* Fransziska returning to help out. I love when adversaries become allies. Even when they follow you around making snide comments.

* Godot and Fransziska meeting.

* Mia. Because she is awesome.


Things that were perplexing:

* The need to change a cultural reference from curry to gravy. WTF? Do they not have curry in America?

Thinking about it, Japanese curry isn't really anyone else's curry... gravy is actually closer food-wise. But the awesome translation stops at the first game, so a lot of questionable word choices happen in the other games :P

Oh boy fic recs... tsukikoushi, beeblebabe and croik were my favourite writers back in the day and I'd rec any of their PW stuff. The anonymous PW kinkmeme is so crazy that anon_press was set up just to keep track of it, but I was sort of over the entire fandom by the time it got going!
