Movies of 2010
Dec. 24th, 2011 10:24 pmYes, you read the year right. I figured it was better to do these now, before next year catches up with me.
In 2010, I saw 8 movies at the cinema, down from 10 the previous year.
Avatar 3D - What can I say that hasn't already been said? Visually spectacular, and I enjoyed most of it, although the Mighty Whitey stuff was rather irritating.
Alice in Wonderland 3D - This movie should have been a new fantasy classic, like Labyrinth. Unfortunately, it felt kind of flat, possibly because Alice herself was flat. Also, this movie did not need to be in 3D.
Red Cliff Parts 1 and 2 - Now *this* is a big screen experience. Three Kingdoms + John Woo + Tony Leung + Takeshi Kaneshiro = EPIC WIN.
Iron Man 2 - Like everyone else, I loved the first movie. But this one disappointed my expectations. Maybe because it was more of the same, whereas I wanted *more*.
Inception - Okay, it was pretty nifty. But I still like The Prestige better.
Tomorrow, When the War Began - Great adaptation of a teenage favourite, although I remain perplexed at the casting for Robyn and Chris, and I wish they had kept the ambiguity of the books instead of showing the faces of the invaders.
Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole 3D - Owls! With Aussie accents! Fighting armed battles! Fun fantasy with lots of cute owls. (And Geoffrey Rush.)
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 - Excruciatingly faithful to the book, including The Camping Trip That Never Ended. At least Part 2 was better.
