I've just spent over two hours trying to download and install the newest RO patches. Each time, it takes around twenty minutes to download and unpack the first set of files. Then it tries to get the second set of files - and fails. No option to retry, only cancel or exit. If you exit and try again, it starts downloading the first set of files all over from the beginning.

This sucks. I can't even log into the game. I haven't played in several days, and I was itching to check out the new Comodo upgrade they've implemented, and now I can't access any of it at all.

To top it all off, I just realised I've missed Witchblade. I was all set to tape it, kept reminding myself all day, and then in my distraction I forgot. It's the first bloody episode of the series, and I missed it.

Did I say how much this sucks?

Make sure you have *plenty* (800Mb+) of free hard disc space on your RO partition before attempting the patch. RO needs to temporarily uncompress the data.grf file in order to patch it, and 800Mb is about how much space the temporary files take up.

I spent a *long* time trying to figure that problem out - for a game that's supposed to be fully localised an error message of "800@*@&#*&^!(*^(*^$@!^*garbagegarbagegarbage" is hardly expository ><

I was thinking that it might be a space issue, but I've got over 3GB free in that partition. It's a bit of a puzzler. I eventually managed to download the files - it spontaneously decided to work, and I don't know why. At least the problem's gone now.

What Pelrun said. Mucho grandez space requirements. Might I also add that instead of using that silly download prog they have loaded up in the beginning, that you take note of the names of the files it downloads and go to

ftp://efpatch.ragnarok.co.kr/
anonymous login
go to patch directory and download the files you need, with the handy resume features of your ftp browser. As long as you put them in your main Ragnarok directory with all the other stuff, RO will check if you have the files and bypass the downloading if they're already there. Really handy on a dial-up.

I had no idea that existed. Thanks for the tip!

Oh last night's episode of Witchblade wasn't actually the first because I caught the last half of it last week. And it was er... good ^^;

Yeah, I did manage to see the pilot movie - I liked it a lot too. I'm just a bit of a continuity freak, so I hate missing episodes. I'll have to make sure I tape next week's.

Actually make sure you have 1 GB to be safe. =\ I have had the problem too.

It started working by itself several tries later - don't know why. Weird. I'm just glad it did.

I can send you the episode if you like (speaking of which, did that OAT tape ever arrive?)

It did indeed - thanks for sending it! I liked seeing the trio's men-in-black routine, although the droogs themselves were painful to watch. But I guess OAT is that kind of lottery sometimes...

Would love to see that Witchblade episode if you have it! Um, anything I can send you in return?

I'll send the Witchblade (I think I have your address still - will email if not). Don't worry about sending me anything - for one thing human and/or vcr error means you may well be abe to help me out with an episode of something in the future.

But whilst I'm sending the tape, is there anything else I can put on it? Don't suppose you're interested in the Professionals or Inspector Rex at all? Or B5... only there's prob no point in sending less than several seasons thereof...

Mmm, I wouldn't mind checking out the Professionals - I've heard a lot of mention of this fandom over the years, and your LJ commentary makes it sound like a very interesting show indeed...

Seems the iRO patcher is still as flaky as ever.

Oh well.

I've just rejoined the addicted - I'll probably be online tonight and maybe friday night after the screening...

must... make... it... to... first... job...
