X-Men: Apocalypse

meteordustI meant to post about this right after I saw it, but it probably would have mostly consisted of wild flailing.
I loved this a lot, probably the most out of the new movies. So many new people! It had a genuine ensemble feel, which is what I love best about the X-Men: they are a team.
* Storm - Just so cool, and I love her '80s mohawk.
* Jean - For the first time, I felt like I understood her and liked her. I've always thought of her as calm and responsible and kind of dull - the Professor's perfect protege - but here we saw her doubts, her isolation, her prickliness, her courage, and her fire.
* Jubilee - Yay! One of my faves, I loved seeing her hang out with everyone, and I wish she'd gotten to join them in saving the world.
* Nightcrawler - Just too adorable.
* Mystique - I liked that she had become a heroic icon, almost a mythic figure.
* Quicksilver - Once again awesome, and got to do some serious questing for his family.
* And, of course, there was obligatory Wolverine.
Erik's fridged family was not as terrible as it could have been, although the double kill arrow was ridiculous. I liked his daughter's power over birds, and her protectiveness of her dad. I liked that Erik's memories of Charles brought him back from the dark side.
Oh, and that opening sequence was awesome. The planning and daring of the ancient Egyptians as they betrayed and imprisoned Apocalypse, and everything just literally sliding into place.
