Discworld is one of my dearest fandoms of the heart, even though I rarely talk about it here. I've read some amazing fic for it, but I've never dared attempt it myself - mostly because the voice and the humour are so distinctive.
But I did want to try, someday, and Monstrous Regiment is one of my favourite Discworld books. My recipient wanted a story about Polly and Mal, ideally set post-canon, with a happy ending. This is exactly the kind of story I love too - only this time I had to write it.
I'm a sucker for the trope of two people being stranded together somewhere, and then romantic hijinks ensue. Songs were a theme throughout the book, and the ways that songs did not quite match reality. So it made sense that they might not helpful when it came to figuring out love. Luckily, Polly and Mal are pretty good at figuring things out themselves.
