Coronation Ceremony letter
Aug. 2nd, 2018 11:31 pmDear Coronation Ceremony Writer,
Thank you so much for offering to write a story for me! I love The Goblin Emperor and its characters, but I was especially excited to see that worldbuilding could be nominated for this exchange. I've provided some prompts in case you're looking for inspiration, but I'd also love to see whatever other ideas capture your imagination.
CHARACTERS: I've requested worldbuilding, but I'm fine with including any canon characters or any original characters you want.
LIKES: In worldbuilding, I like sense of wonder, sweep of history, and ordinary details of everyday life.
DISLIKES: I generally prefer optimistic stories for exchanges, so I'm not keen on anything that is brutally violent or depressingly bleak. However, I don't mind darkness as long as there is a glimmer of light. Bittersweet endings are also fine.
RATING: I'm fine with explicit sex, but it's usually not the most important part of the story for me.
STYLE: I'm fine with first, second, or third person. I'm fine with past or present tense. I'm fine with stories of any length, including stories that start in media res.
CROSSOVERS: I would prefer no crossovers with other canons.
AUS: I like seeing the characters in their own settings, so I would prefer no alternate universes like high school, coffee shop, or omegaverse. However, I like alternate universes where something happened differently in canon.
I hope this helps. Have fun writing!
Yours sincerely,
meteordust

Request 1: Worldbuilding: Archaeology - fanfic, podfic
I love discovering lost history - the wonder and wistfulness of connecting with people from long ago. Like the renovation of a building, that uncovers forgotten relics of past inhabitants, even simple everyday objects: a comb, a cup, a cooking pot. Or a full-scale exploration of ruins, that show what an earlier civilisation of elves was like: perhaps containing the monuments of kings, or frescoes of significant events. Maybe one of these discoveries solves an old mystery, or stirs up new questions, or turns popular assumptions upside down. I would prefer a story be looking back at the past from the present day of the book, not looking back at the present day from the future, so that we get to discover something historical.
Request 2: Worldbuilding: Birthdays - fanfic, podfic
We know that Maia's sixteenth birthday was not acknowledged, but what are the usual traditions around the ascent into adulthood? Do any other birthdays have special significance? We also see the celebrations for Maia's nineteenth birthday, his first as emperor. What might his future birthdays be like? How might other people celebrate their birthdays? Are there any popular customs or favourite activities?
Request 3: Worldbuilding: Untheileneise Court - fanfic, podfic
I really love how much personality the different rooms have, like the hospitable warmth of the Tortoise Room, or the oppressive gaudiness of the Rose Room. What might be the story behind them, or other interesting rooms in the court? Who were the individuals who shaped them? Do they represent the style of a particular era? What dramatic events might they have witnessed, whose marks they might still bear? If a character designed a new room to their liking, what might it be like? If a character needed to use a room that was not to their liking, how might they adapt to it, or adapt it to them?
