My fandom year

Fanfic: All the fic I wrote this year was for fandom exchanges. I took part in Chocolate Box, Night on Fic Mountain, Coronation Ceremony, Trick or Treat, and Yuletide.

I wrote 9 stories this year:

1 - Blade Runner 2049 - (Something Real)
1 - The Goblin Emperor - (The Scandalous Rake and the Amorous Ladies)
1 - Good Omens - (The Art of Saving Souls)
4 - The Silmarillion - (Shine Forever, In the Ruins of Thangorodrim, Oh No He's Hot, Older Than The Moon)
2 - Yuletide fandoms (to be revealed)

Fandoms: I tend to float along being happily multifannish. But the shiny new fandom I got excited about was Final Fantasy XV. I read countless words of fic and looked up a ton of art. I wish I could write in the fandom too, but alas I can't actually play the game on my computer. I've watched some stuff on YouTube, but that's hardly adequate. (Unless I stick to Brotherhood era or something.)

Platforms: I continued posting to Dreamwidth and cross-posting to LiveJournal. I occasionally reblogged pretty pictures on Tumblr (although everything has changed since the purge). I still have a Discord account but haven't really used it.

2018 in review

1. What did you do in 2018 that you'd never done before?

Most of my firsts are travel related.

2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

Not so much resolutions as goals, but I'm still working towards them.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

No.

4. Did anyone close to you die?

No.

5. What countries did you visit?

Uzbekistan.

6. What would you like to have in 2019 that you lacked in 2018?

A better organised system for getting things done. Which I hope will bring confidence and serenity.

7. What date from 2018 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

I'm not sure if there's any one day.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Preparing for and pulling off the overseas trip.

9. What was your biggest failure?

Not completing more original projects.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

Nothing serious, just colds and things.

11. What was the best thing you bought?

Some really neat miniature paintings for my place.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?

Those who took the risk of speaking up against injustice and wrongdoing.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?

Various politicians.

14. Where did most of your money go?

The mortgage.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

Travel!

16. What song will always remind you of 2018?

"This is Me" from The Greatest Showman.

17. What do you wish you'd done more of?

Staying on top of housework and decluttering.

18. What do you wish you'd done less of?

Wasting time on internet forums. Though some good habits have improved this.

19. How will you be spending Christmas?

With family.

20. What was your favorite TV program?

The Good Place. Totally worth the wait. Every new episode is like getting to unwrap a present. Kristen Bell is always a delight, and it was a pleasure to discover all the other awesome actors on the show.

21. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?

No, just the usual suspects, and it involves politics. Although this time last year, the man who is our current prime minister was not someone I was aware of at all.

22. What was the best book you read?

I fell in love with The Books of the Raksura by Martha Wells.

23. What was your greatest musical discovery?

The movie musical The Greatest Showman. You know how on most albums there are songs you skip? This is not one of them.

24. What did you want and get?

My first trip overseas in a long time.

25. What was your favorite film of this year?

Get Out blew my mind with how good it was. Ocean's 8 was incredibly fun and the epitome of the rule of cool.

26. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

Cake with family. Older but wiser.

27. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

I said this last year too, but probably an impeachment.

28. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2018?

With all these heatwaves, dressing to stay cool.

29. What kept you sane?

As always, friends and family.

30. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

Tahani Al-Jamil is played to absolute perfection by Jameela Jamil.

31. What political issue stirred you the most?

The treatment of refugees and the reality of climate change.

32. Who did you miss?

Absent friends.

33. Who was the best new person you met?

I'm blanking on this one.

34. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2018:

If you can't do what you want, do what you can. Just keep moving. What's the best use of your time right now? And it's okay to let go of "should", and figure out if something is meaningful to do.

35. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:

Look out 'cause here I come
And I'm marchin' on to the beat I drum
I'm not scared to be seen
I make no apologies
This is me

Happy New Year! See you all in 2019.

It sounds like you had a fantastic year - happy new year and hope 2019 is great (I fell asleep before midnight like a nanna). Your trip sounded amazing!

But the truly blinding revelation for me is that I didn't realise you were into FFXV - is it time for a PS4? XD I guess there's a pretty sizeable section of fandom that's into Kingsglaive too (but I haven't seen it yet).

Dragon Age is such good fun, though - enjoy!! :D

I think it gets better as they patch it more and add DLC, to be honest (which is why I'm replaying it, sigh)... so if you play it a good while after Ep Ardyn comes out you'll basically have the most complete version of the game.
