You know how in Lemmings, you have one type of lemming that's a builder? It carries a stack of planks, and as it walks along, it lays them down in front of itself. Only thing is, when it runs out of planks, you'd better have somewhere ready for it to go. Otherwise it'll end up walking right off the edge and going splat.

I started the month with a set of scenes in my head, and I've been laying them down one by one. Thing is, I was fast running out of planks and still only halfway there.

Normally you get gestation time. Time for ideas to move around and eventually click together. No chance of that with NaNo.

So last night I made myself sit down and try to work it all out. Not writing, not yet, but thinking. And yeah, breakthrough. I know where I'm going with this now.

Definitely worthwhile to spend time figuring out where you're going from here. I find if I draft the next few scenes out in front of me, I write faster.

Yeah, I know what you mean. They say not to overthink it and to just write, but you have to have somewhere to write *to*, y'know?

Yeah exactly. I'm all for having it flow but it just doesn't when I'm staring down a blank page.
