Six months...

meteordustSix months ago today, I went to dinner with some of the gang. A lot of them were talking about something called Ragnarok Online. Apparently it was an MMORPG based on the Korean Ragnarok manga by Myung-Jin Lee. Everyone seemed very enthusiastic about it, even though most of their references went over my head. sentxd lent me a CD with a copy of the game.
That night, I installed it and logged on for the first time.
Six months later, and I've spent more hours on RO than I can count. Sometimes so much fun it made me laugh out loud; sometimes so frustrating I wanted to quit. More than once, I've considered it, but there's always been something to draw me back.
RO memories
Way too many things to list. Here are just a few of them.
* Creating Asheroth. Hmm, being an archer sounds cool. (Now, six months later, I can't imagine anything else I'd rather be.)
* Novicehood. Mostly around Payon. I never want to have to kill another willow again.
* Meeting Lenor - the first XD person I encounter. She gives me a hat and takes me out of Payon to meet the others. Both of us get attacked by the miniboss Vagabond and his wolf pack along the way. (A bystander asks if we need any help. Five seconds later, all three of us are dead.)
* Wow, Prontera is so big! I feel like such a hick.
* Why is that mage sending love hearts my way?
* Izlude by the sea becomes my favourite city in all of Rune-Midgard. It's love at first sight.
* Hunting hydras on Byalan Island, in the beautiful undersea caves.
* The first rollback. Double XP compensation. Cool, let's go levelling!
* The second rollback. Fuck, I lost ten levels! Damn you, Gravity!
* Sephiroth, my pet poring. He says the cutest things and growls at my enemies. Levelling in Payon 2 would have been much more tedious without his company.
* Going to Clock Tower Underground for the first time, hunting penomenas with Lunakitty and Lenor.
* Visiting Lutie for the first time. The snow lags my screen, but it sure is a pretty place. Sadly, no Santa porings in sight. Lots of angry sasquatches though.
* Spotting Angeling on the argiope map! The first miniboss I try to kill. Wrong arrows, unfortunately - I can't hurt it at all.
* Making hunter. My graduation.
* Lunakitty instructing me on trapping technique in Glast Heim Abbey: "Hunter is about anticipation. Read ahead what is going to happen, and you will never die." Wow. Very Jedi. Unfortunately, I still die lots.
* Watching Alby and Lillenthal pass the time by playing scissors-paper-rock.
* Creating Sirius. Because everyone loves acos. And priests look cool in their sexy red robes.
* Mourning James and Lily with Remus in Prontera Cemetery.
* Tanking poporings for Remus. Yay, Ash can tank!
* Ravenloft and Ravenclaw.
* Visiting Comodo for the first time. White beach and purple sky. Very pretty.
* Spending way too long at hodes. Boring and full of botters, but provider of much needed loot...
* Ash gets his antlers! Woo!
* Alby's graduation. The Old Blue Box of fly wing. ^^;
* Sirius selling warps in Prontera. Wow, he's making more money than Ash...
* Meeting Dragon Force while selling warps. He has a pet Baphomet Jr. He offers to tank sohees for me and Remus in Payon 4. Wow. One cool priest.
* Hunting mummies with Lumialle in Mids 3. Lumialle goes AFK for a few minutes. Ash takes down the first two mummies that come by but then gets mobbed and dies. Is forced to watch helplessly as mummies turn on Lumialle and kill him. Noooo...
* Taking Lumialle to visit Lutie. Ash and Lumi's first date. Cyrus interrupts at an inopportune moment.
* Encountering Stormy Knight in the Toy Factory. It's embarrassing to be killed by something that looks like the evil clone of Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
* Training marins with Lumialle and Cyrus. Ooh, I get to test out my sparkly traps on them.
* Halloween quests. Is it worth collecting 222 jellopies, 222 clovers, and 222 fluffs just to get a Mr Scream mask?
* Sirius meeting Vocal and his mob. ("I don't like the look of all those rockers coming this way... ARRRGGHHH!")
* Hunting with Sixe and Lumialle during the Halloween town invasions. We're keeping the streets of Alberta safe.
* Ravenclaw is remade into The World. Ash is Steel Hurricane. Sirius is Puchigosu Healer.
* Guild hunt, trying to MVP Moonlight. Alby suggests we're sitting too close to the spawn point. No one can be bothered moving. (Circle of doom.) Moonlight spawns on top of us.
* Meeting Ange. I tank some poporings for her. She helps me finish my Mr Scream mask. Woo, Ash looks so sinister and evil!
* Encountering a magnificent Gryphon in the new Comodo maps. I die. Oh, was that a miniboss?
* Testing out PVP. Freeze Trap looks funny. So does Arrow Repel. Double Strafe doesn't own nearly as much as I thought it would. I am sad.
* Shin Ravenloft. Ash becomes Crimson Stalker.
* Woo, Apple o Archer! At least something good came out of Clock Tower and getting killed by those irritating punks.
* Soloing in GH Graveyard. Woo, I feel l33t!
* Sevenne's graduation. Yay, priestess! Afterwards, levelling, we run into the Mutant Dragonoid miniboss. It looks weirdly like a tragic anime villain.
* The adventure continues...
