My main reaction was...

They didn't kill everyone off.

They didn't even kill *anyone* off.

This was a huge relief for me, having watched all too many shows end with the characters going out in a blaze of glory (or just getting mown down by a hail of bullets). It's not shocking or edgy anymore - only depressing and cliched.

Though to be honest, Roswell *could* easily have turned into a bloodbath, just like in Liz's vision. It was all set up to unfold into tragedy - the evidence discovered, the hunt, the chase, the desperate last stand.

I'm glad it turned out otherwise. Sure, it's hopelessly cheesy, to end with a *wedding* of all things, but sometimes you just want a happy ending. Because it shows there's hope for the world after all.

The best bit was when Michael made his dramatic entrance on the motorbike to rescue Max. How cool was that? (And Max? That was *so* a coming out speech.)

The last of the Hornblower movies - at least for now - aired on the weekend. Dammit, no more Sunday evenings relaxing with Horatio and company. I think I've been spoiled by the fact that I got to see all eight movies in a row, instead of having to wait a couple of years between each batch.

Ah well. I'm still making my way through the novels, so I do have more Hornblower to keep me occupied. And yesterday I picked up the DVD for The Even Chance, so now I get to rewatch the series from the very beginning. And this time around, I think I'll be watching certain things more closely...

I hadn't speculated on how it would end (indeed, I tried hard not to), so reading your post was the first I'd considered that they *might* have killed them all off.

Although I was certainly relieved that Kyle made it. I was spoiled for someone dying (in Panacea), and thought Kyle was by far the most likely candidate. Of course, since it turned out to only be a "death", that opened up the choices more.

I really liked the ending - it made me happy. Mind you, I mostly ignored the wedding. It was *such* a good setup for fanfic, which, to be honest, is just about all the show's good for anyway.

I'm missing Hornblower too. I did tape them, so that's better than nothing.

And this time around, I think I'll be watching certain things more closely...

Archie? Horatio/Archie? "Mutiny"?

I was hoping for the best, but bracing myself for the worst. I mean, Roswell's the kind of show where you'd expect a happy ending, but I've been surprised before by the kinds of finales writers come up with. Some seem to regard the end of a series as an excuse to finish off the characters.

The wedding was amusing because it was just such a schmaltzy, Liz Parkerish way to finish, but I didn't mind it so much because they all got to hit the road together. I'm glad Kyle (FutureAlien!Kyle) got to go with them.

Archie? Horatio/Archie? "Mutiny"?

All of the above. :) I think knowing what will come later will make me see things in a different light. Kind of like how watching Clark and Lex in Smallville has extra resonance because everyone knows what is destined to happen.
