Here are my top five songs from Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, in order of their appearance. The show may be gone, but the songs live on, on the official YouTube channel. (Though in the video notes, where it used to say "Now available on Paramount+", it's changed to "Not available on Paramount+". Just twist the knife, why don't you.)

Same Sky (Episode 3)

The stars, they still shine
Orion says hi
Everything's changed but
I've got the same sky

New girl Hazel (Shanel Bailey) misses her friends and her hometown. But up on the roof of her house, the stars she sees are still the same. I fell in love with this song instantly. It's probably still my favourite, in a very crowded and competitive field. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous.

Pointing Fingers (Episode 4)

But we don't have to take it if we come together
We don't have to take it if we come together

The Pink Ladies lead the school in rebellion against the latest draconian rules. This is a great ensemble number: the dancing is so sharp, and the song is catchy as hell. Olivia (Cheyenne Isabel Wells) has an amazing set of pipes on her. And her warning that "we fight over everything instead of going against the machine" is incredibly relevant.

Pulling Strings (Episode 7)

Am I a puppet in a dream
Who closed his eyes to everything
All the hands that point directions
Open doors to good connections
I'm a product of pulling strings

Buddy (Jason Schmidt) confronts the truth that his life always been rigged to his advantage, by his father and by society. An achingly poignant song, and his voice is beautiful in it. And I love the brilliance of mixing the metaphors about pulling strings and being a puppet.

Crushing Me (Episode 8)

I can't control the overflow
Emotions rolling like a stone
My fantasies play hide and seek
I got a crush
It's crushing me

Nancy (Tricia Fukuhara) and Cynthia (Ari Notartomaso) commiserate over their respective crushes. This song is an absolute banger. I love the old western vibes and the frozen time shenanigans. It's a fantastic duet, they totally kill it, and it's a crying shame it's only two minutes long.

Face To Face (Episode 9)

Life plays some dirty tricks
Got everything that you wanted
But then you have to admit it
That the dream doesn't feel the same
When you see it face to face

I always love the moment of truth right before a story's climax, when characters are faced with their heart's desire, but at a cost they didn't expect - and they have to decide if they're willing to pay that price. Jane (Marisa Davila) and the rest of the Pink Ladies meet their moment of truth here. There's something very haunting and mesmerising about this song.
