Where Noman has gone before

When I logged into Fallen London the other day, an unskippable message filled my screen:

Noman's End

It's time.

My snowman was finally melting away. There were a few options for how to respond. This was the one I chose:

Bid it the kindest farewell you can

It had only a little time.

The result:

A hug

You embrace, briefly. Its flesh is warmer than you remember – a sign of its near dissolution. "Goodbye," it says, as its features begin to blur. "I was glad to be. Think of me kindly. All shall be well, and all—"

Goodbye, Snowden, first Noman I ever made.

Analysis

When I consulted the wiki, it advised that, for my creation day this year, the expected Noman's Friend loss was 221, the maximum loss was 271, and a safe amount of resources was 6 Pails and 21 Vials.

I had more than enough Pails and not enough Vials, and I had terrible luck with the Vials, which often disappeared after one use.

Nonetheless, I wildly overshot the requirements to achieve the Tattoo. But I figured I would give my Noman as long as I could, so I just fed it whatever resources I had.

Its status remained "The Noman is pristine" until the sudden end, with no gradual decline in between.

I gave the Noman a taste of all of my Quirks, so it should have become a fairly well-rounded individual.

If I had managed to raise Noman Knows to 15, I could have asked the Noman for an Elemental Secret, at the cost of ending its existence then. I think I wouldn't have wanted to cut its life short, after pouring all those resources into it, but I didn't have to make that decision. Maybe next year's Noman.


Future

Memories of a Doubled Spring is an even more ambitious goal than the Noman Tattoo, needing you to keep your Noman alive until the Whitsun festival in May. This requires building up over 2000 Noman's Friend, using dozens of Pails and hundreds of Vials. Too rich for my blood!

But what it means is that you can take your melting Noman to the Apicius Club, and, well, "Offer to share the final moments of your Noman", aka, ask it to be made into a sorbet. So in a way it becomes part of you forever?
