The story so far:
In Season One (Prontera Chapter), we saw the adventures of the Shin Ravenloft guild during the early days of the War of Emperium. The war pitted guild against guild in fierce battle over the fortresses that guarded each city. Shin Ravenloft, being a relatively young guild with few high level members, could only dream of someday winning a fort of its own. Instead, it went skirmishing during sieges alongside its newfound allies, Playmates and Slaughtered Saints.
But Shin Ravenloft found itself catapulted to prominence with its unexpected conquest of a Prontera fort. Prontera, the capital of Rune-Midgard, was the most chaotic and war-torn of the cities, with forts changing hands every few sieges. Somehow, Shin Ravenloft defied the odds - after a shaky start, it made Valkyrie Realms 3 its home for forty one days. This included an unbroken stretch of twenty days - the longest anyone had ever held that fort without it changing hands.
During this time, Shin Ravenloft had to contend with relentless attackers, spies and infiltrators, internal conflict, and shifting alliances. Playmates won a fort in Geffen and relocated there, becoming increasingly drawn into the local alliance. Slaughtered Saints, unable to hold onto a fort for long, imploded from internal stresses. The guild was disbanded and then remade.
The second last episode of the season showed Shin Ravenloft fighting heroically against desperate odds - and then, impossibly, winning the day. The finale climaxed with the devastating fall of Valkyrie Realms 3, and Shin Ravenloft's valiant but futile attempt to retake it. The Prontera Chapter of this saga closed with the members of the guild gathered outside their lost castle, preparing to face an uncertain destiny.
Season Two (Payon Chapter) opened with a couple of low key episodes. We saw Shin Ravenloft going back to helping out its allies with their forts, as well as making a few attempts at regaining a foothold in Prontera.
But it was Payon which was becoming the focus of the action now - Payon, nestled deep in the heart of the forest, home to the archers and hunters of the realm. The Payon forts were a step up from the Prontera ones, and the next obvious target for a rising guild looking to stretch its wings.
During this time, a new alliance flowered between Shin Ravenloft and a guild called No Love. No Love had been one of Shin Ravenloft's neighbours in Prontera, achieving an impressive seventy six days continuous occupation before losing its fort during the infamous Novae Inflammo incident. Recognising their affinity, Shin Ravenloft and No Love began to help each other, and friendly relations grew into a solid alliance.
At the same time, however, the Shin Ravenloft/Playmates/Slaughtered Saints alliance was showing signs of strain. Once, in the heady days of their youth, they had imagined that bond was unbreakable - an alliance that would stand until the end of days.
But Playmates made it clear where its priorities lay when it chose to help its new ally Gaia against No Love, even though Shin Ravenloft was fighting by No Love's side. And although Shin Ravenloft continued to assist Slaughtered Saints, especially in Payon, there was growing ambivalence concerning the relationship between the two guilds.
This season also introduced a number of new enemies for Shin Ravenloft to face, including guilds such as Cataclysmos, GodLike, Fatty Chubby Kitties, Dragon Slayers, and Imperial. And how will our heroes fare against the powerful Payon Alliance?
Stayed tuned for the continuation of Season Two (Payon Chapter), and further stories of adventure and intrigue in SHIN RAVENLOFT: TALES OF THE WAR OF EMPERIUM.
