Spent yesterday at Supanova, which was on this weekend at Darling Harbour. I'd been looking forward to it for a while - there aren't that many conventions in Sydney, and this is one I never miss.

Caught the train to Wynyard Station and walked from there. Even before I got to Wharf 8, I could already see people carrying Supanova showbags. It was about one when I arrived, which fortunately meant no queueing.

Inside, the main room was mostly taken up by dealers' stalls, with Artists' Alley running along the right hand wall. One of the first things I spotted was the Moshi Moshi and AnimeUNSW table, thanks to the big sign hanging behind it.

Talked to Pirotess, who'd been there since nine setting up. Got a contributor's copy of her new zine Shounen Ai - Boys' Love, which had my story 'Dragon Boy' in it. Woohoo! Pirotess told me she'd sold quite a few copies to a group of high school girls who'd come up from Canberra for the con. Then they'd caught sight of the guy cosplaying Squall and promptly mobbed him.

Did a bit of shopping - picked up the Powers: Who Killed Retro Girl? graphic novel, as well as the first issue of the interclub anthology Taiyaki Factory, Goki's Transformers comic On Devil's Ground, some more Black Light Angels, and a few other local comics.

I also picked up the first DVD of Noir from the Madman stall. I've only seen the first few episodes of this anime, but it's really impressed me so far. Especially the music. I love the music. I will never get tired of listening to 'Canta Per Me'.

There weren't any panels I was particularly interested in this time, so I wandered by the anime karaoke session. There was a girl who did a beautiful rendition of the Escaflowne opening. She had the most gorgeous voice, and it suited the song really well.

Later, I watched the cosplay competition. There were a lot more entrants than last year. The highlight was Chloe's Lulu costume, which was amazing - before, I wouldn't have thought it possible to make. She told me later she'd spent weeks buying up belts from the op shop. She even had a plush Moomba with her, which she'd made herself.

I also liked the uniformed Gundam Seed soldier, the Utena (complete with fencing sword), and the two red-helmed, red-cloaked Star Wars Imperial Guards. The funniest skit was an FFVIII battle sequence with Squall and Rinoa, featuring use of combat turns, a plush Angelo, 'Eyes On Me', and lots of Phoenix Down feathers.

Afterwards, I went to dinner with some of the gang at a nearby sushi place. Then home to rest, unpack my shiny new purchases, and settle back to watch the Smallville season premiere.

All up, a pretty good day.
