Brief notes on the episode.
The newbies:
* Yaeko. She was really cool in the first episode, with her fury and her backbone and her going off to rescue her father. She was much less cool in this episode, when she became the one needing rescue and inevitably fell for the hero. While I like "Hiro was Kensei", I think "Yaeko was Kensei" would have been ten times more awesome, and much more original.
* Kensei. Well, well, healing. So this is the second power we've seen duplicated.
* Maya and Alejandro. Still largely ciphers. What do we know about them? What is their family background like? What were their dreams and ambitions before their lives were disrupted? What are their plans for the future after this crisis is resolved? Does Maya want to play pro tennis? Is Alejandro studying to become an engineer? I need more than "he protects me" and "I protect her".
* West. Is still a pain in the ass, and a creepy stalker. Now that he's seen Claire's powers, I hope the Haitian pays him a visit.
The oldies:
* Peter. Is it inappropriate that I burst out laughing in the first five seconds? You know, when we see a shirtless Peter tied to a chair? Because if you thought last episode had fanservice, this one has *blatant* fanservice. Oh, wait. Not just tied-up, half-naked Peter - *drenched*, tied-up, half-naked Peter. I think my TV may explode. (And has Milo Ventimiglia been working out or what?)
* Mohinder. While the virus plot is interesting, I burst out laughing at the return of his magic antibodies.
* Hiro. Oh, Hiro. I love that he already pictures telling the story of his adventures to Ando.
* The Haitian. (Who needs a name, seriously.) I cheered at his return. And again when he rejoined Noah Bennet.
* Claire. I love that she's working to find out more about her abilities and their limits. (Although I was screaming at the TV all through the toe-cutting scene.) And that her first thought was how she could use her regeneration to help people. (And her dad being wise enough to know what people *would* actually do.) But I wish she was being written smarter this season. I mean, who leaves the car unlocked?!
* Angela Petrelli. I am relieved she wasn't killed. She may be evil, but she rocks the show. And her comment about not sleeping with Kaito Nakamura: "Not for a long time." Whoa. (And of course, someone then theorises she could actually be Hiro's mother - but seriously, not *everyone* on the show has to be a Petrelli.)
* Some guy called Nathan? I think he was in this episode for like sixty seconds?

Date: 2007-10-20 02:47 pm (UTC)I like Maya and Alejandro. I don't particularly know why.
Because if you thought last episode had fanservice, this one has *blatant* fanservice
Did you see where someone had posted excerpts from the commentary about that? With everyone talking about how they've been paying attention to their fan letters, so, here you go. And later, the "This is a very sad scene. Milo gets a shirt".
I cheered at his return. And again when he rejoined Noah Bennet.
Looking forward to more of *them*, definitely. And I especially liked how much they were pleased to see each other again. People keep changing loyalties all over the place, but it's never (well, hardly ever) all black-and-white MY side vs THEIR side.
But I wish she was being written smarter this season
The car made no sense. Also, I wish she'd ensured privacy before cutting her toe off. Her dad's kind of right to worry that she's not going to be able to blend in.
