meteordust: (together they fight crime!)

So Supernatural is coasting, and Heroes is nosediving. Are my fandoms in a sorry state? Yes. But whenever one door closes, another opens.

That door is Life On Mars.

"My name is Sam Tyler. I had an accident, and I woke up in 1973. Am I mad, in a coma, or back in time? Whatever's happened, it's like I've landed on a different planet. Now maybe if I can work out the reason, I can get home."

Life On Mars is the story of a 21st century Manchester cop flung back into the dark ages of policing. A time before modern forensics, mobile phones, or the internet. Hell, a time before *computers*. It is also a time when the police force is rife with racism, sexism, violence, and corruption - when the main focus is putting suspects behind bars, and never mind the rules broken. It's a world entirely alien to Sam, which leads to a battle of wills between him and his superior officer Gene Hunt, who are each very much embodiments of their respective eras.

I'd heard nothing but good things about this show, so when Series One aired on the ABC earlier this year, I taped it. I saw the first episode, thought "That's pretty interesting", and saved the rest for later. This year I've had a long queue of things to watch, so it was only two weeks ago that I finally sat down and watched the next episode of Life On Mars.

By the end of that episode, I was hooked.

I blitzed through the rest of Series One in about three days, and now I have to get my hands on Series Two. It is one of the best shows I have seen this year - the writing, the acting, the production values, everything. I kind of feel the way I did when I discovered Hikaru no Go three years after everyone else did - like I want to run around saying, "OMG! This is brilliant! Why didn't anyone tell me?" Except, well, they did.

This is my first post about Life On Mars. I doubt it will be my last.

What the-? I still love me Heroes. Did you see last week's TV episode? I think it may have been episode 7 - I thought it was like phwoar! Apparently the episode after is really good as well. Sheesh I hate to hear what you think about my comics if your standards are this high :)

Oh yeah, the last episode was heaps better. But it shouldn't take this long - we're like a third of the way through the season.

Thing is, last season, Heroes set the bar incredibly high for everyone - including themselves in later seasons. So it's their own fault in a way. :P

Hey, I love Knee Pockets. I can't wait to read the next one... *hint hint*
