How is it December already? This year feels like it was full of stuff, but also went by in a blur.

My fandom year

Fanfic: I wrote a mix of fic inside and outside of fandom exchanges. I took part in Hurt/Comfort Exchange, Gen Freeform Exchange, CharactOR Exchange, and Yuletide.

Last year, I cut back on exchanges due to burnout, and wrote a lot of other fic instead. This year, I hit a wall on writing in general, and did hardly any. I hope I'll be able to get my mojo back next year.

Anyway. I wrote 6 stories this year:

1 - The Mandalorian - Who Lives By The Sword
1 - Good Omens - Thousand Year Promise (Hurt/Comfort Exchange)
1- Crossover - Star Trek: The Next Generation, Untitled Goose Game - Where No Goose Has Gone Before (Gen Freeform Exchange)
1 - Marvel Cinematic Universe - Reflections in a Red Room (CharactOR Exchange)
1 - Moon Knight - The Man in White
1 - Yuletide fandom (to be revealed)

Fandoms: I was excited by a lot of new media, but didn't really fall into any new fandoms. In Fallen London, I dipped my toe into Exceptional Friendship for the first time, with the new enhanced version, to experience the bonus stories. What do I do with all these actions?!

Platforms: I continued posting to Dreamwidth, and stopped crossposting to LiveJournal. I keep thinking I should do more with Tumblr and Discord, but haven't. I backed up my fic from AO3 to a new Dreamwidth fic journal.

2023 in review

1. What did you do in 2023 that you'd never done before?

I had enough trouble keeping up with the things I had to do, let alone adding anything new to my plate.

2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

Always a work in progress. I feel like this year I got a better handle on what works for me and what doesn't.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

No.

4. Did anyone close to you die?

No.

5. What countries did you visit?

None.

6. What would you like to have in 2024 that you lacked in 2023?

Enough physical, mental, and emotional energy.

7. What date from 2023 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

Various world events. Not good ones.

Helping a friend with a writing project.

Not finishing a major project.

18. What do you wish you'd done less of?

Procrastinating on the internet.

19. How will you be spending Christmas?

With family.

20. What was your favorite TV program?

Lower Decks and Strange New Worlds reminded me how much I love Star Trek and why. (And the crossover episode was perfect.) Willow was both refreshing and nostalgic, and utterly charming. Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies was inventive and had so much to say and said it in the best songs. And The Mandalorian this season was the Bo-Katan show, and I was totally there for it.

21. What was the best book you read?

Creature by Shaun Tan, who is an incredible artist, and has no right to be such a good writer too. The Sun's Bride and Alchemy of Fire by Gillian Bradshaw, whose historical novels I am sadly running out of.

22. What was your greatest musical discovery?

It was a good year for musicals. & Juliet was a joyous romp, The Lucky Country was brave and funny, The Dismissal was delightful and meaningful, and If/Then was deeply resonant and exactly what I needed.

Staying in touch with people through everything this year.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was stunning in animation and story.

Cake with family. Older but wiser.

26. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

Finishing a major project.

27. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2023?

I can never think of anything. This is probably one of the questions I should retire.

28. What kept you sane?

As always, friends and family.

29. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

I just want to say everyone in the Strange New Worlds cast is ridiculously attractive.

30. What political issue stirred you the most?

The news was kind of overwhelming this year.

31. Who did you miss?

Absent friends.

32. Who was the best new person you met?

I'm not sure I have an answer to this.

33. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2023:

Things you thought were pillars can be shaken, and things you thought were constant can come to an end.

34. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:

If we're always starting over
Ev'ry brand new morning
Then we're always starting out
With the end in doubt
We can leave life for tomorrow
Or grieve all that we thought we'd do
Or make each moment new

Happy New Year! Wishing you a very good 2024.
